"Flowers do not force their way with great strife.
Flowers open to perfection slowly in the sun.
Don't be in a hurry about spiritual matters.
Go step by step, and be very sure."
- Grace Cooke / White Eagle
I read the above quote, and the first thought that came to mind was how we could apply the same concept to our health journey. Many of us set health goals as a New Year’s resolution to reach a specific weight, tone up (or bulk up), eat healthier, etc.; however, we sometimes become impatient with ourselves. Maybe the pounds aren't dropping fast enough, so we get frustrated, angry, and want to give up. It is March Madness after all!
Perhaps you started running, and you still haven’t reached your distance goal. I’ll bet you’re running further now than when you started, eh? I also bet, that by the time you cross the finish line, you’ll be all smiles and proud of yourselves (and you should be). When I started swimming a couple of years ago, I looked like a beached whale gasping for air. I was lucky to swim .25 yards before having to stop and catch my breath. Now? I’m competing and swimming a mile for my workouts.
“Don't be in a hurry...go step by step” and celebrate how far you’ve come!
Just as a butterfly transforms gracefully from one stage of life to another, we too can transform from unhealthy practices to a positive lifestyle through patience and endurance.
